Specialty Pharmacy Providers

Specialty pharmacy providers (SPPs) can help you get injectable medicines, like APOKYN®, that are not available at your local pharmacy. SPPs typically handle medicines that are difficult for your pharmacy to keep in stock.

In addition to the convenient home delivery of your APOKYN, SPPs provide a variety of support services. Your APOKYN SPPs offer a toll-free helpline staffed by qualified healthcare professionals who are available to speak with you about your APOKYN.

Choosing an SPP
APOKYN is only available through an SPP. Your healthcare professional will choose an SPP to handle the delivery of your APOKYN as well as other support services. In some cases, the SPP will be determined by your insurance company.

The following SPPs currently offer APOKYN:
  • Accredo Nova Factor, Memphis, Tenn; 1-866-898-0104
  • PharmaCare, Pittsburgh, Pa; 1-800-238-7828

Working With an SPP
Once your healthcare professional has identified you as a candidate for APOKYN, he or she will schedule you for initiation of your first dose. In some cases, the healthcare professional will provide you with an APOKYN Patient Kit to be used at initiation and titration. In other cases, the SPP will provide the kit to be used at initiation and titration.

Upon determination of the correct dose for you, your healthcare professional will inform your SPP, which will:
  • Individualize your APOKYN shipment schedule
  • Provide the accessories necessary for APOKYN administration, including needles, alcohol swabs, and a container for the disposal of used needles

90% of patients achieved a therapeutic response within 20 minutes that was approximately equivalent to their usual response to levodopa (n=20). APOKYN is used as needed to treat off-episode motor symptoms, including muscle stiffness, slow movements, and difficulty starting movements, associated with advanced PD.
